Seasons Change

It was summertime
When they met....

Swimming in the ocean,
Making jokes about themselves,
She saw in him greatness...
He thought she was cute...

Lying under the oak trees..
Sharing stories of their lives...
She learned he was wonderful....
He discovered she was smart...

Kissing under the moonlight
Dancing with the breeze...
She knew she loved him...
He felt it too....

Fall came....
The leaves turned brown...
The ocean turned cold...
The moonlight, faded behind the clouds...
Summer was over.....and so were they.

Lovebirds

He walked in front of her
Stopped to look back,
She looked at him with those eyes,
And he couldn't look away.....

He found something for her,
Stepped in closer,
She looked at him with those eyes,
And he couldn't look away.....

He scouted out the place for her
Defended her from danger
She looked at him with those eyes,
And he couldn't look away....

Its simple really....
She loves him and he loves her.

*************
My friend Dion and I had lunch yesterday and decided to eat outside at the restuarant. We saw these two birds...the male bird -- would walk ahead of the female one. He picked up food for her and handed it to her...Ya they kissed a lot. When we approached, he tweeted and she flew away -- he stood there waiting to defend her. He always turned around and looked at her -- to make sure she was there. It was so cute. A simple act of love...I can actually say -- I've seen lovebirds.

Sara - who is going to Oklahoma

My sister Sara (actually a step-sister but ugh that sounds so -- inately evil) is moving to Oklahoma today. She is venturing across the country with her boyfriend and her CAT. I hate cats - but that is another story.

Side note:OKOKOKOK I admit it her cat who is named after SATAN is actually cute....they call him LOOSEY short for Lucifer. No I won't keep him.

Anyway...she is quite an adventurer and we have some groovy stories -- considering we NEVER lived together. Its quite funny. One time, we went on a family vacation to Charleston, SC. Not a bad thing normally but on this lovely adventure there was a hurricane brewing off the coast of South Carolina. They put Sara and I in the 'loft'. Well that wouldn't have been so bad, but we were on the TOP FLOOR of our building. Here we are the sacrifical lambs of hurricane Beatrice (or whatever it was called.) It sounded as if the roof was going to blow away and the rain was going to burst through the windows. If one of us was a 'quiet one' I guess she would be it. I laid awake all night saying 'were going to die' 'we'll be the first to go' etc etc. By the time the wind stopped howling, I had fallen asleep. When we tell this story, she says she laid awake all night. We joke about it now -- but it was pretty freaky. Needless to say, the storm passed and it made some great waves...but more importantly some great memories.

Josh and Sara -- I hope you arrive safely and GEW SOONERS! (cheerleader voice)

Remember: When moving - pack your toothbrush on TOP of your couch!

PS Oh ya and Sara -- remember when I threw your stuff piece by piece over the balcony? Good times! hee hee

What will it be?

Hiking through the forest
of happiness
If I become lost
Will I be found ?

Swimming in the water
Of greatness
If I stop kicking
Will I drown?

Flying in the air
Of truth
If wings give out
Will I fall to the ground?

Remember: Thank your local volunteer fire dept guys. They get paid in 'thank yous'

Igloo

Have you ever thought what it would be like to live in an igloo? I made one once out of construction paper for school. I think it would be crazy -- but I would love to see one. My house is warm and cozy but they say igloos are too. Here are the steps to building one....Let me know how you fare....

from http://home.no.net/gedra/igloo_bg.htm
(it has photos and everything)

Step 1: Find a suitable spot
A hard field of snow is required to build an igloo - hard enough to make solid snow blocks. Even if the top layer of snow is soft, hard snow can usually be found underneath. Use your sticks to make a circle, marking the base of the dome. The snow depth should be at least 1m where the igloo is placed. Don't make it too big, or you're into trouble later. This igloo is for 2-3 persons.

Step 2: Prepare the snow blocks
The snow blocks are prepared with the saw. They should be solid enough to be carried horisontal without breaking by their own weight. Large blocks are used at the base of the dome, smaller ones at the top. A thickness of 15-30cm is good. The blocks can be made extra strong by setting them up to harden in the wind.

Step 3: The building starts
The edges of each snow block should be smoothed and angeled correctly to make a strong bond to the adjacent blocks. A ski with its tip placed in the centre of the igloo is a perfect tool for this. There will always be some (or maybe a lot of) cracks between blocks, but that is fixed later. It is very important that the bottom row of snow blocks are placed aslant, otherwise you are building a tower...

Step 4: Finishing the igloo
The igloo is closed! Not a perfect dome, but good enough. Now it is time to fill all those cracks with snow. (The really big cracks are filled with small blocks of snow.) Then the inside of the igloo must be smoothed. This is done by hand (your gloves get very wet, bring extra pair!). If the inside of the dome is one, smooth surface, there will be no dripping of water at all. When the smoothing of the inside is done and all the snow has been shoveled out, it is time to finish the entrance. An L-shaped entrance is a good solution, and will prevent any snow from blowing in. First dig an L with an depth of 1m (or more), then cover it with a square 'roof' made of snow blocks.

There ya go...you're set

Guess what I saw....

A dog
A car
A boot - WITH A SPUR
A marshmallow
A man with a hat
A seahorse
A heart

I saw these things today...On my drive home....In the clouds. I think it is awesome how simple clouds make the greatest images. I remember lying in the backyard when I was a child looking up at the sky...imagining that dog chasing its tail. I would split a blade of grass a million times over and make up little stories about the clouds. Some clouds are beautiful and calming as they float across the sky...Some are full of rage and energy and move swiftly to their destination....some drop rain like tears clensing the air...The answers are there -- just let it go. Life is so complicated, sometimes it helps to just look up at the sky and let the imagination take over....maybe that is what it means to have your head in the clouds......

Remember: Look both ways before crossing the street. Seriously.

Women of the world UNITE

Ladies -- grab 3 of your friends...go have lunch. And remember that 1 out of every 4 women get breast cancer. My Mom is a breast cancer survivor. My Aunt is going today for her lumpectomy. There is just too much of this. Every year, I do the Race for the Cure and get emotional seeing all the women in pink -- knowing all they have gone through. Chemo treatments - surgeries - blood drawings - dr visits - family counseling - personal dispair. There are other victims of breast cancer too. OH YA and to the guys reading this blog -- guess what you are not immune to this.

If you're a praying person, I ask that you pray for my Aunt and everyone with Cancer today and for those in remission who are hopeful it will not return (my Mom).

from www.komen.org

Who gets breast cancer?

Anyone can get breast cancer. For example, did youknow…

the older a woman is, the more likely she is to get breast cancer?

white women are more likely to get breast cancerthan women of any other racial or ethnic group? They also have a better chance of survival, primarily because their cancer is usually detected earlier.

African American women are more likely to die from breast cancer than white women

Men can get breast cancer too, although it is rare. Less than one of every 100 cases of breast cancer in the U.S. occurs in men.

in 2004, it is estimated that men will account for 1,400 cases of breast cancer.

Who are you?

I was thinking the other day that I only know what its like to be me. No one else. And no one else can know what it is like to be me. Its a really freaky moment of self-awareness when you understand this concept. Have you ever stopped to think, what if you werent you -- what if you were someone else? Then you pick that person and poof -- it all gets to be crazy! Because the first thing I do when I am someone else is look back at myself. Its impossible. Ok have I confused the you know what out of you? Are you worried about my sanity or lackthereof?

Happy Sunday
