My great grandmother could grow an African Violet. Hers were always blooming and so beautiful. Mine...well they wouldn't win any awards. I'm trying so hard to keep them alive. I water them, not too often, from the bottom and yet they still try my patience. I have one that does great for a while and then yesterday I looked...brown leaves. pfft.
Why is it in relationships -- no matter how much we nuture them and try to do the right thing -- we still screw them up. We manage to somehow either -- over water -- or give them too much sun and poof! Instant death. I guess that is the one thing I've struggled with and continue to struggle with. Often, I won't say what I mean or I will not say enough. Or I say something and its taken the wrong way. Its just so frustrating. Words are very powerful and I think, myself included, we don't think very much before we speak.
If you've been a violet in my life...and I've somehow fried your leaves...I'm sorry. I didn't mean to...and you are definately not alone.

Recycling
We are recycling at my house and I'm telling you, its INSANE the amount of stuff that we USED to just pitch in the trash - that will now be reused. I feel so good about this! Our waste pickup does this for us free of charge - Its AWESOME. It really creeps me out to think of all the garbage being dumped into landfills -- actual LAND and then expect it to what - disappear? Get real.
Anyway, if you don't recycle...reconsider. You don't have to be a treehugger to appreciate the fact your trash isn't going to be sitting around taking up space your Great Great Great grandchildren could be playing on.
Remember: Recycle - duh!

Rules of Engagement
It always cracks me up when you're talking about an "issue" with someone and they play the victim -- when they actually started the mess. Like you somehow forced them to say something or instigate the problem. Just fess up. Tell the truth. The victim role is for soap operas...not solving problems.
Seriously, I am learning a whole new perspective on the aspect of "mean people suck".
I can understand making a mistake. WE ALL make mistakes. But doing something with malicious intent to hurt someone's feelings -- is beyond me - seriously. And when it happens to me, I'm always amazed. I remember one time -- in an online game -- I actually asked someone to do something mean to make another person -- upset. It worked. I FELT ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. I still apologize to that person. And yet, there are people that do these things 24.7. What kills me is they have people surrounding them that think they are awesome.
Excuse me while I go bang my head against the wall. I seriously need a "keep away from me mean person" sign.
Mood: bummed
Remember: If you laugh for 5 minutes straight really hard -- its like running a mile. (or so they say)

Tennis!!!!!
Its so funny how a silly tennis match can have me so worked up. Friday night was the first practice for a new team I'm on and I was so nervous I thought I would come unglued. Its JUST tennis! I don't get paid to play this game either. I ended up having a good time at practice in spite of being pretty sore the next day. To think that the two hours we practiced on Friday would be enough practice for a match on Sunday...well that is reaching! On the way to the tennis center I told my husband that I wanted to go home. I knew I would go but I really was scared out of my mind.
Why do we get so nervous over things that are supposed to just be fun? I mean -- that IS why I signed up for that right? Its self imposed pressure that gets us everytime. No one was pressuring me to "win" on Sunday -- I was pressuring myself. Like I had something to "prove". I really didn't have "fun" until I chilled out during the second set. Talk about RAINING ON MY OWN PARADE!
I think the next time I will just go out and have fun...not worry about the first win. We already did that :)
Remember: Its not whether you win or lose, its having someone to walk you home after the game.....

I'm Employed!
YAY! I started my first day of work in my new job today. I have worked for the same company for 10 years...so I was a little nervous about my "first day" in a new place with new people. The funniest thing happened THE NIGHT BEFORE I went to work when I was relaying this to my husband...my words were and I quote
"Do you think I will make friends...do you think people will like me"
Needless to say there was huge laughter from the audience -- and he finally managed to say that is what Molly (my niece) said before her first day of 2nd Grade - FOR THE LOVE!
The irony of it all was that I was patient and waited for the "perfect job for me". Not that I was feeling the pressure - I was - but after all the insane interviews and traveling - I really landed what I was meant to have. Its just awesome when things work out that way.
Remember: Turn your heaters off before you leave for work!

Resolution 2006
You know it stinks we have to "resolve" to wash away all of our "life-mistakes" the VERY FIRST THING of a new year. I mean why don't we do this in July??? Pick a random day -- like September 20th - just resolve to be "better".
OKOKOKOK I am going to do what I should and post my resolutions. Maybe by showing the world I will have "some" accountablity for them.
1. Clean up my potty mouth. Bad words sound so stupid coming out of my mouth and I just feel -- trashy saying them.
2. Look fabulous for the cruise -- and all that entails.
3. EXERCISE
4. Practice my tennis! Perfect my serve.
5. Write in my blog consistently.
6. Be a better friend and spend a lot less time thinking about people who are mean...
7. Spend more time being productive
8. Eat healthy every day and keep my fingernails filed.
9. Go to church every week!
10. Save money!
Remember: Its the thought that counts.
