'Beauty and the Beast' 3D Theatrical Release Postoned Indefinitely 2010/01/06
I guess this is old news....but I have an opinion about the whole thing! (HA! Imagine that!) Particularly this quote:
"No official reason has been given for the indefinite postponement, however, thedisneyblog.com speculates that "the Toy Story/Toy Story 2 3-D double feature could certainly have done better at the box office. "
I am really disappointed...and bummed. And if the above is true, I think Disney is way wrong about their logic - the reasons are obvious:
- Toy Story / Toy Story 2 are already available on DVD.
- Kids after the DVD release have all seen them -- they watch them all the time at home.
- Its hard to get the younger ones to sit through 3 hours of movie. You really should have split them up.
- So if you don't get to see what you paid $50 for (two parents, one child, popcorn, 3 drinks) then -- its hard to find the logic in going at all (especially when you can watch it at home).
- Beauty and the Beast hasn't been available since the VHS days.
- Many families don't even OWN a tape player and therefore many children 10 and under (maybe even 12 and under) haven't even seen it.
- Beauty and the Beast is a great/classic love story!
- The Beauty and the Beast release should have been BEFORE Toy Story 3 and although I don't have any research on this, I think that it would have been a good buildup to the TS3 release (and might have actually been successful going against How to Train Your Dragon 3D. I mean Beauty and the Beast DID win an Oscar).
- Unlike the not-as-successful-as-they-would-have-liked Princess and the Frog movie, the scary in Beauty and the Beast is a humbling sweet part of the tale. The Voo-Doo man in TPatF is just flat out scary. I have to FF through all of the parts for my child. It freaks her out.
So there you go Disney - you probably spent millions on R&D and I just told you -- FOR FREE. You can thank me later (or just give me a couple of passes to WDW -k thanks).
