Have a closer relationship with God by...RECYCLING

Can you believe what we are doing to this planet? Since High School when I learned about landfills and how nasty we behave I have been concerned. And if I am concerned I wonder what God thinks...I imagine its probably something like when you come home and find your house trashed after the kids have just gone wild. Beyond annoyed and angry.

Anyway, I was thinking of ways that I could encourage my family and friends to get on board with me and recycle. Every time I throw something away, I think about its decomposition. If its wax paper or a container - it doesn't matter. When God created the earth, we didn't have such issues that we have today. We didn't have super absorbent diapers that take over 300 years to decompose. (By the way, whose big bright idea was it to take large plots of land and dump garbage on it? and then cover it with dirt? That is a good one!) So that brings me to my point...

Friends - Family - God wants us to take care of our bodies. He wants us to take care of our money and spend it wisely. He wants us to love our neighbor, not steal etc etc (you know the big 10). But He ALSO wants us to take care of our PLANET. He provided it to us -- and look what we're doing with it. If you don't recycle - I encourage you to make a baby step and start. Try something simple like newspapers or cans (that is where we started). From there we moved to plastics (ALL) and just about everything in between. Your children can learn from this as well. We save the pop tops for Ronald McDonald House Charties from soda cans. They can turn them in at school or church. If there isn't a program - start one! How cool is that? Recycling to help the planet but also helping people in need too. (If you don't know about Ronald McDonald Houses - THEY ARE GREAT. My sister and brother in law had to use one when her youngest daughter was an infant and what an impact it had on our family. We were so impressed.

Just today, I bought 6 of the large canvas bags at the grocery store. My cart FULL of groceries fit in all 6 bags. It saved me a bunch of time carrying IN the groceries, putting them away and I didn't have to recycle those stupid plastic bags. (Whose big bright idea was it to make the giant switch from paper too I ask...)

All patrons of this planet need to be kinder. But as a believer, I personally am using it as a to get closer to the power who made this all possible.
