One Year

It's been almost an entire YEAR since I have written to this blog.    But I haven't totally LOST my will to be creative.  I actually have...drumroll please....STARTED A BOOK.   I'm so excited about this project -- my plot has been reviewed by several of my peers and so far so good!  :)  I will share here soon.

But one thing that comes to mind when I'm writing....have you ever had that one teacher that made an impression on you - so much so that when you're doing something you keep hearing that voice in your head repeating the words?  I had a professor in college - Penny Tschantz - who told me "Well I think we both know you'll never be a writer."  I have heard that ringing in my ears for almost 20 years.  How ridiculous!  I thought she was a really tough and smart teacher and when she said that to me -- I was just -- taken back.  And now looking back -- she may have been smart about historical writers -- but she knew NOTHING about me.  She learned nothing from me in the hour I spent in her class...for 6 months.   And to me, that makes her -- well, not so smart.  Why would you ever say that to a 19 year old?

I can write.  I do.  And I am.  Take that Penny!
